Plaatsen > Maasmechelen (L) Maasmechelen ligt in de Belgische provincie Limburg.
Aan de Halstraat in Kotem (Maasmechelen) zijn tijdens
lage waterstanden in de Maas de overblijfselen zichtbaar van het kasteel
van Esloo (Stein). Het kasteel, dat dateert uit de twaalfde eeuw, stond
vroeger gedeeltelijk in de Maas. De ruïnes zijn sinds 1971 beschermd als
monument.
